Junking Runs in the Family

M
y father-in-law makes fabulous creations from salvaged barn lumber and mirrors. This past summer, he surprised me with this official Junkologie sign. He even etched the mirror himself. He is brilliantly handy...a gift that I am grateful he passed on to his son!

Below is one my favorite photos of him sporting his Junkologie shirt and pink tools at the Junkologie Blog Party 2009 at the Oronoco show...

He's trying to overcome his shyness! :) Can you tell?

On the other side of the family...

my mom sent me this email of my dad's recent junking project...

She said my junking influence is rubbing off on him, but maybe it's the other way around. Can you think of a better repurpose for these two garden implements? I can't! Well done, Dad!

Gathering of Friends Fall 2009

DSC06852-wtmk

I
t was a true gathering of friends at this fall's Gathering of Friends Antique Show. It was held at Bachman's flagship store in Minneapolis. This was my first time attending the show, and I was thrilled to see some of favorite vendor friends...Jan of Summerspell, Jane@Mustard Moon, Cindi@The Nature of It, Pam of Pam's Picks, and Deb@Haupt Antiek. My only treasure from this show was the sign in the first photo. Love it? I knew you would! I haven't decided where to hang it yet, but I have some ideas. Enjoy the junk!!

O
ne of my favorite pastimes is photography. Not just photos of anything and everything, but specifically of junk, collections, and architecture. The shapes, colors, and patterns created by intentional and unintentional mixing of materials is inspiring. Capturing these moments in time from my perspective is a form of creativity that fuels me like no other!! What better place to get my photo and junking fix than a flea market, occasional sale, or similar venue? None better, I'd say!

The photos above are the second in a series of photos taken at The French Flea Occasional Sale. The jewelry is crafted by Gretchen@Mimi-Toria's Designs. The other images are some vignettes around the store. I'm not a professionally-trained photographer, but I hope you enjoy the images.

While I do bring home plenty of thrifty treasures on a regular basis, I also bring home hundreds of digital thrifty treasures...my photos. They inspire me, teach me, remind me of a fond memory, and connect me to the friends I met that day. These are the real treasures of junking! If you want to get more of a fix, feel free to poke around the blog a bit more. The last six posts are ALL junking photos...
If that's not enough, there's a more junking photos on my other blog...WhisperWood Cottage. Some of the most recent junking posts are three specifically related to Junk Bonanza 2009...

Do you enjoy taking photos of your junking adventures? Is it your finds, the vignettes, or the people involved that get your camera snapping?

T
ime to get a little French on!  These are photos of my first-ever visit to The French Flea in Anoka, MN, during their September occasional sale. That first photo is my best bud, Lanette@Cottage Elements. Love, love, love her! The rest of the shots are glimpses of their September displays. Who is loving the goods as much as I am? I soooo want that door and the outdoor courtyard to go with it. Yummy!

Texas Antique Weekend Fall 2009

A
re you ready for some Texas photos? I thought so. We had a wedding in Texas during the preview weekend of the Texas shows, which meant we were able to sneak over to Warrenton/Round Top for a day of junking and visiting with fellow junkers. The slide show highlights our visit to Texas Rose and Zapp Hall with tons of booth photos and blog party candids!

Guest stars include (not in any particular order!):
Based on the recommendation of photographer David@Student of Life, I recently opened a Flickr account. The slide show above is from my first set of photos uploaded there. I'm still learning the ropes, so I hope you enjoy the show! You can also view the Junkologie photostream directly on Flickr.
